Product assembly

Rapid planning and design of production lines from prototyping to mass production by capitalizing on unique expertise and IT systems, demonstrating comprehensive capabilities for high-mix low-volume production

Experts with unique expertise based on Toshiba’s experience in manufacturing banknote processing systems, railway station service systems, and postal service systems prepare drawings and procedures for assembly from product design drawings using a proprietary IT system, create kits of parts for higher assembly efficiency, and design the line layout. An IT system is also used for process progress management to rapidly achieve mass production of products whose quality satisfies Toshiba standards.

Pursuit of high-quality manufacturing

Many of our staff possess national skill test certificates to help ensure high-quality manufacturing. In order to share information in product assembly operations, bottom-up activities led by staff, such as “group morning gatherings,” “manufacturing morning gatherings,” “quality creation committees,” “quality prediction activities,” and “repeated education,” are conducted to improve quality and prevent defects.

IT-based manufacturing

We have introduced a proprietary “assembly support system” to go paperless for drawings and have realized display of assembly simulations with 3D graphics. In addition, the “man-hour management system” keeps track of process progress in two-hour increments and constantly checks for delays from the target values and the progress status.

Realization of high-mix low-volume production

To achieve optimal high-mix low-volume production, we have established a flexible production line/shop switching structure to handle assembly of items ranging from small desktop products to large products up to 50 meters in length. Efficient production tailored to each product is achieved.

Environmental and CSR Activities at Akita Plant

Since assuming leadership of the secretariat of the local industrial park, Akita Plant has been deepening communication with the community through tree planting and environmental beautification. Akita Plant is also actively involved in supporting local school education through use of the company’s products.
